This is a ride about me, not Tom. That is an important distinction for a mother who has lost one of her sons. A year and a half ago, my goal was to memorialize my youngest son, John Thompson Westerlund,III (Tommy). To prove that I would never forget him. I have realized that, of course, I will never forget him. He will always be with me. Now, my goal is about re-discovering my joy for life.
I'll be riding from Maryland to California this summer, visiting/camping in as many National and state parks as I can. I have no set route, just heading West. I am so thankful for the support, understanding, and love of my friends and family, especially my husband Todd. My close friends call him a saint. I have not been an easy person to live with the last year plus 10 months. To Jay, Ary, and India, I thank God and Spirit every morning that you have each other. What would I do without your love, your humor, your connection? Never want to find out.
